徹夜でレポートを書き上げあまりにも天気が良いものだから出かけることにした。目指すはここらで一番高い由布岳、温泉で有名な由布院を見下ろすように聳立する標高千五百八十四メートルの山だ。
当初は無理のないように途中で引き返すことも頭に入れておいたが、どうも性格上やり始めると止まらないらしい。途中登って行く人たち、下って来る人たちと言葉を交わしながら約一時間半で分岐点に到着。そこから山頂は１５分。勧められた西側を選び山頂へ。
九州の大地を３６０度眺め深呼吸をする。世界はこんなにもデカイがここに一人山頂にたつ人間がいる。「九州よ！これからも宜しく！！」そう心の中で叫んだ。
